SUGAR @ Foo Foo Fine Desserts (TTDI)

Truly a hidden gem of TTDI, Foo Foo Fine Desserts has grown a cult following within the dessert lover community. If you've followed us enough, you'd know that once SUGAR hears of a trend, we'd go ahead and see if the hype was actually worth it.

Ever since the opening of Foo Foo Fine Desserts in January last year, this dessert place situated on the first floor of a shop lot has been one of the go-to-spots for a posh dessert date, without breaking the bank; and that's what the founders of Foo Foo Fine Desserts had in mind. Their vision: to make fine desserts, particularly traditional plated desserts, be accessible and affordable, because good food deserves to be shared.

If you're one of those people that are easily scared off by foreign words and desserts jargons, welcome to the club! Isn't it very nerve wrecking to have ordered something and wonder for the next 15 minutes (as their desserts are plated and served upon order) if you'd be served something that you'd actually enjoy?

Well, that's not the case here. Sure, their menu does have a lot of dessert jargons. This dessert place, however makes up for it by having a team that is highly knowledgeable of the dishes they serve and they're more than willing to explain the desserts to you before you order. Bonus points to the owners for being very hands-on as they're here every day when the shop is open.

If you're one for the sophisticated taste, then Tahini Chocolate Mousse w Honeycomb & Peanut Tuiles would be the no brainer choice.

As this dessert consists of multiple layers, your taste buds are in for a taste adventure with layers of Belgian chocolate infused with tahini sesame seeds mousse, mascarpone, and nutty meringue (dacquoise), topped with peanut tuiles and honeycomb, every bite into this dessert is a surprise.

Before you know it, the whole bar would've been gone and you'll be longing for more. We've been there.

If you're a not much of a risk taker when it comes to desserts, both Baked Cheesecake w Macadamias & Citrus Salad and Passion Pavlova w Lime Chantilly would be the perfect choices.

However, being safe doesn't have to be boring. In the instance of the baked cheesecake, it is a very versatile piece as it is paired with macadamia nuts and citrus salad. Just as you're getting bored of the taste of the cheesecake, the tangy taste of the citrus salad would perk you right back up!

The second example whereby we had an interesting twist to a traditional classic would be their Pavlova. While having passion fruit puree with Pavlova is no groundbreaker, having lime Chantilly brings a whole new layer of unexpected taste to the plate.

We're definitely a big fan of insta-worthy desserts. More often than not, we'd order a piece of sweet-tooth fixer with that very intention. If you're very much like us, then the Strawberry Tart w Balsamic Vinegar Ice Cream would be one for the gram.

While it sure does look great for a mini-food photo shoot, the taste is something that you'd never expect it to be.

From the looks of it, you might mistakenly think of it as just another pretty dessert with not much substance. That was certainly not the case as you'd be pleasantly surprised to break into the tart to find an almond cake hidden under layers of homemade strawberry compote, pastry cream, and slices of strawberries meticulously placed atop.

Topped with the unique Balsamic Vinegar Ice Cream (which does sound weird on paper but tastes like heaven), this dessert was a hit with the #sugarklsquad. We unanimously loved it, both for the insta-worthiness and for the exotic-yet-friendly taste.

The brains behind the creations must be a genius (clearly he is, as he is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, Sydney) as the next two desserts that were served to us were arguably the highlight of the night. Believe me, our standards were set rather high after the Strawberry Tart.

As soon as we were served Crispy Profiteroles w Salted Caramel Coffee Ice Cream and Apple Strudel w Black Pepper Mango Ice Cream, we had to take a moment to just savour the looks of it. A definite showstopper, if you asked me. Set atop a base of caramelized orange slice are light and airy profiteroles complimented by the salted caramel coffee ice cream.

Also not one to be left off the spotlight was the apple strudel. Already a scene stealer with how it looks, it's served with an even more interesting scoop of ice cream.

While having mango ice cream would already be exotic to our urban palate, Foo Foo Fine Desserts brings it to a whole new level by infusing black pepper into it as well. As if that's not enough, crushed pistachios were garnished on the scoop of happiness adding a dimension of texture to it.

Foo Foo Fine Desserts is definitely one place that we'd look forward to visiting again soon. With great innovations, this posh dessert place is here to stay.
